What to do after a car accident

You’re suddenly in a crash and don’t know what to do.

As you regain focus, there are a few things you should do after a car accident. Here’s what you should know:

Call 911

The very first thing you should do is call for help. The police and a paramedic can then arrive at the scene.

File a report

You should report the accident to the police. The police will file a report that will go to your insurance company. Then your insurance company should assess the damages and reward you with compensation.

The police may ask you a few questions. They may involve how the accident was caused, how fast you were going, if you’ve been drinking, where you were driving from and if you saw the other vehicle. During these questions, you should answer honestly.

Have an EMT examine you

Perhaps you don’t feel injured. As a result, you don’t want to bother the paramedic. But, you should still seek an examination. Some injuries can show up days later or after your adrenaline has calmed down. A report from an EMT can help if you’re suffering from hidden injuries.

Collect evidence

There will be some time to collect photographic evidence of the accident. If the other driver claims the accident didn’t happen or the damages weren’t bad, then you can collect proof that contradicts their version of events.

A car accident can lead to many legal issues. If you’re in an accident, it can help to know someone with legal experience so you can get compensated for your losses.
