New Jersey driver taken into custody, faces multiple charges

Even with awareness campaigns and hefty penalties, drivers continue to take to the roads when they are intoxicated and put lives at risk. In Monmouth, New Jersey, and across the nation, it is important for victims of drunk driving accidents to figure out the best way to move forward and hold negligent drivers accountable for their irresponsible actions.

A 28-year-old man from New Jersey was taken into custody after allegedly drinking in a bar on Staten Island and getting behind the wheel. A spokesman for the Port Authority said the man's vehicle grazed a barrier on Route 440 before an officer turned his emergency lights on and tried to pull the man over. However, the driver reportedly continued to drive and crossed multiple lanes before he came to a stop in a parking lot.

According to the spokesman, the officer detected alcohol on the driver's breath and found an open bottle of liquor and a collapsible baton inside his vehicle. The suspect, who admitted to authorities he consumed alcohol in the Staten Island bar, was taken to a hospital after becoming uncooperative while he was being processed. In addition to drunk and reckless driving, the man is facing other charges due to leaving the scene of an accident, having a suspended license and illegally possessing a weapon.

On top of serious injuries and emotional pain, victims of an auto accident caused by a drunk driver may also struggle to pay hospital bills and experience other financial setbacks. As a result, anyone going through this should take action immediately and may want to talk about what they have been through with an attorney.
