2 reasons not to drink coffee in the car

Coffee is one of the most popular drinks in America. Most people drink it every day. A lot of these people take a cup of coffee with them on their morning commute or even pick it up at a local coffee shop on the way to work.

However, despite the fact that it is common to drink coffee and drive, this is a very dangerous practice. Below are two reasons why you may want to avoid it.

It can be a driving distraction

First and foremost, drinking anything while you drive is known to be a distraction. Picking up your coffee cup to take a drink means that you can only hold the wheel with one hand, which is a manual distraction. Even as you take that drink, the cup itself can obstruct your view and distract you from what’s happening on the road. Additionally, coffee can be incredibly hot and so a spill is going to be very distracting and could lead directly to an accident.

You may just be fatigued

Another reason that people often buy a cup of coffee is that they’re feeling too tired to drive. Maybe they’ve been nodding off and they’re afraid that they’re going to fall asleep behind the wheel. While it is better to drink some caffeine and feel more alert, the best option is just to pull over, rest and drive when you feel naturally awake. Caffeine can only cover up for fatigue for so long, and drowsy drivers cause accidents every day.

Have you been injured?

Even if you avoid coffee for these reasons, you could still be injured by a drowsy driver or a distracted driver. Be sure you know how to seek financial compensation for these injuries.
