Drivers in New Jersey often have no choice but to share the state’s busy roads and highways with large tractor trailers. Unfortunately, that means accidents involving trucks and much smaller passenger vehicles sometimes occur. Due to the difference in size, these collisions often have serious consequences for the occupants of the other vehicles.

A truck driver in Elizabeth is in police custody after he caused several accidents. Authorities have not said whether they are looking at contributing factors such as alcohol or drugs. They also did not indicate what caused the man to flee when they arrived at the scene. The man was finally stopped when he was shot by law enforcement.

The accidents left two other people injured and one man dead. All three were in the last car the truck driver struck in a head-on collision. It is unknown how serious the victims’ injuries were or if they were expected to recover. Before hitting their car, the truck driver had hit several parked cars and another vehicle. It does not appear that anyone in that car was injured. Authorities have not revealed what charges the truck driver will face and it is unknown if the family of the deceased victim has been notified.

When collisions involving a heavy truck occur, there may be several factors involved. These factors could include negligence on the part of the driver, the trucking company or the company that performed maintenance on the truck. Therefore, people may wish to consult an attorney who has the skills to conduct a full investigation into the matter.
