Distracted driving is a huge problem that causes countless injuries and thousands of deaths each year. While a lot of media attention is given to texting and the use of other technologies while behind the wheel, you may not be aware just how dangerous eating while driving can be. Also on the list are beverages such as coffee and soft drinks. If eating right away is a must, the safest thing to do is pull over. Otherwise you are better off waiting until you arrive at your destination to have your meal.

Your chances of being in an accident are 3.6 times greater if you are eating or drinking behind the wheel. This is due to the fact that consuming a meal makes you less focused on operating your vehicle, and requires you to take your eyes off of the road and your hands off the wheel.
