What are some types of common motorcycle accident injuries?

If you ride a motorcycle in Monmouth County, safety is likely a very important issue for you. However, even if you take all the proper precautions and wear all of the appropriate protective gear, accidents still happen. In the event that you are involved in a crash while riding your motorcycle, you are more likely to incur certain kinds of injuries according to RideApart.

A number of different studies have been conducted to figure out which types of injuries occur most often. One study was conducted over a four year period and looked at police reports and medical records from one state. That study found that riders who wore helmets suffered fewer injuries and less severe injuries.

Another study, which examined victims at a hospital in Pakistan, concluded that if you break a bone in a motorcycle crash, it is most likely going to be either your fibula or tibia, both of which are located in your lower legs. Similarly, when it comes to your upper body, your ulna and radius are the bones most likely to be broken.

In addition, another study, which looked at non-fatal accidents only, found that damage to the legs and feet was most common, representing 30 percent of injuries. That study also found that 22 percent of injuries involved the neck and head. Close behind were injuries to the chest, shoulder and back, followed by the pelvis and hips. However, that study did not examine the severity of the injuries reported.

Finally, one study looked at instances of fatalities resulting from motorcycle crashes. Unsurprisingly, the study found that you are less likely to be killed if you are wearing a helmet than if you are not. Therefore, it can be concluded that if you wish to avoid serious injuries while riding your motorcycle, you would be wise to invest in protective gear, especially a good quality helmet.
