What is the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over Campaign?

Drunk driving is an issue in New Jersey. Across the country, people die every day because of the negligence of a driver who chooses to get behind the wheel after drinking. While the state has strict drunk driving laws, they do not prevent people from driving while under the influence. This is why further actions are taken to help get drunk drivers off the road. Law enforcement often run special campaigns to target drunk drivers. One such campaign is Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.

During the summer months, the Department of Law and Public Safety reports that the Division of Highway Traffic Safety takes part in the summer campaign of Driver Sober or Get Pulled Over. They also use this program around holidays. The program was developed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The goal of the program is to prevent drivers from ever getting behind the wheel when they have drunk too much alcohol. The idea is that preventing drunk driving means never letting drunk drivers get on the road in the first place. The aim is to make people think twice if they have been drinking and to encourage alternative methods of transportation.

Another key aspect is to make law enforcement more visible. If a driver knows he or she is doing something wrong, they are less likely to do it if they know law enforcement is more likely to catch them. Basically, law enforcement wants you to know they are out there and your chances of being caught are fairly high in the hopes you never get behind the wheel if you have had too much to drink.
