As reported by NJ.com, when it comes to car accidents, this summer was slightly less deadly than 2016 across New Jersey. In total, there were 607 fatalities last year, 188 of which occurred during the period between Memorial Day and Labor Day. This summer saw only 183 deaths.
New Jersey has 21 counties and the number of fatalities that occurred in each county varied greatly. In first place was Camden County, which had 16 motor vehicle deaths over the course of the summer. Monmouth County and Ocean County were next with 15 each, which is perhaps not surprising given their proximity to the shore. Hunterdon County and Sussex County saw the fewest, with only 2 fatalities apiece.
While the decrease is promising, it remains to be seen whether or not the downward trend will continue for the rest of 2017.
