When drivers who have had too much to drink get behind the wheel in Monmouth County, it can have disastrous results for you and other people on the road. Drunk driving accidents can cause serious injuries and are often fatal. A new study has shed some light on which states have problems with arrests and traffic deaths resulting from drivers who are under the influence.
According to Cars.com, New Jersey is actually one of the states at the bottom of the DUI problem scale. The Garden State was found to be the state with the fourth lowest number of arrests and fatal crashes. The three states to rank as safer were New York, Illinois and Massachusetts. The three states with the largest drinking and driving problems were South Dakota, North Dakota and Wyoming.
It perhaps makes sense that the states with the fewest DUI problems have more people per square mile. If you live in one of New Jersey’s many urban areas, you most likely either walk, use a ride sharing company or utilize public transportation if you have been out drinking. Meanwhile, the states with the biggest DUI problems have populations that are much more spread out, causing people to have to drive greater distances.
The good news is that while drunk driving accounts for a large percentage of traffic deaths each year, overall, the number of fatalities has declined greatly over the last few decades.
