While millions of people happily travel by car across the state of New Jersey and the entire country every day, the truth of the matter is that driving presents a number of serious dangers to motorists. Drivers can follow road safety guidelines and take every precaution possible, but there is always the chance that someone else’s negligence and/or wrongdoing will cause a serious and even fatal collision. That is why it is so important for liable parties to be held accountable under the full extent of the law.
A 22-year-old man already had 19 motor vehicle violations on his record when he caused a multi-fatality accident recently in Rockaway Township. Now, he faces multiple criminal charges, including DWI, possession of drug paraphernalia, two counts of auto-related assault and three counts of death by auto. The suspect is accused of striking a car that was stopped in traffic ahead of him. The force of the collision caused the car to hit the vehicle in front of it and burst into flames. The suspect’s vehicle drove off the road and overturned in a grass embankment.
The vehicle that was struck and caught fire had three people inside of it. All three of the accident victims died in the collision. They were a 24-year-old man, his 21-year-old fiancée and their young daughter. The child was reportedly one-and-a-half years old at the time of the collision, and the couple was expecting another child. Funeral arrangements were scheduled to take place in the family’s home state of Kentucky.
