Assessing the prevalence of large truck accidents

From a permanent disability to medical expenses and loss of life, there are many challenges that people involved in large truck crashes often face. As a result, it is imperative for drivers in Monmouth and throughout New Jersey to remember the risks they face when getting behind the wheel and do whatever they can to avoid getting in a wreck. Far too many semi truck crashes continue to cause tremendous pain and suffering and it is important for drivers to realize just how prevalent these accidents are.

According to the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles, there were more than 11,450 large truck accidents in the state of New York in 2013. A total of 94 people passed away in these wrecks and more than 5,000 people suffered injuries. These statistics revealed that a large truck crash was more likely to occur on a weekday than on the weekend and they also show some of the factors that contributed to accidents, such as a distracted truck driver and improper lane usage.

On their website, the U.S. Department of Transportation also provides alarming information on large truck accidents in a fact sheet they published. According to data from 2012, 3,921 people died in accidents that involved a large truck and 104,000 were injured. These statistics represent a four percent increase in the number of fatalities from large truck wrecks when compared to 2011. Additionally, more than 330,000 large trucks were part of a traffic accident throughout the country in 2012, which shows just how frequent these types of collisions are.
